This year the Trust Power and Far North
District Council Awards were held in
Opononi and The Hokianga Historical
Society Inc. had been nominated for the
Cultural and Heritage Section in the 2015
Awards.  The Awards were spread across
areas from Kawakawa to Kaitaia. There
were different categories and about 120
nominations.

In annoucing the results, the Society was
deeply honoured when judges announced
a special commendation for the Society,
with a citation mentioning particularly the
work on our Centenary of WWI Project
and for going above and beyond in
commemorating this special heritage
event.

It is pleasing to learn that our team of
volunteers and Society has been
recognised in achieving Trust Power’s
2015 Volunteers Award which was for the
investigations for the World War I display.

A $100 Trust Power cheque was
presented to the Society at the Award
ceremony at Opononi.  On behal opf the
